Lewis (1987:18) questions the presence of this taxon in QLD. Millar & Kraft (1994:440) exclude the records from NSW. Some Australian records represent Codium duthieae. According to Silva et al 1996 Univ Calif Public Bot. 79 (see index for pages) C. elongatum is a synonym of Codium decorticatum but the name has also been misapplied for many other taxa.
