Huisman 2002:834 indicated that this taxon was related to Stenopeltis liagoroides (Yamada) Itono & Yoshiz. Huisman 2006 Nemaliales ABRS, CSIRO: Canberra p. 31 has not included this taxon in Akalophycus liagoroides. Silva et al. 1996 University of California Publications in Botany 79:124 accepted this name at species rank.
