This name is the accepted basionym for Caulerpa hypnoides C. Agardh but is based on the type of Fucus hypnoides R. Brown ex Turner non Wulfen. Caulerpa hynoides is a later homonym of Caulerpa hynoides Lamouroux. The earliest name for the taxon is Caulerpa flexilis.
