The taxonomic status of this species is unclear. Silva et al. 1996:108 placed the name in synonymy with Galaxaura marginata on the authority of Huisman & Borowitzka 1990 Phycologia :158 but Huisman 2006 Nemaliales p. 17 indicates that it is only the Australian specimens that are referrable to Dichotomaria marginata. He is not making a judgement on the Caribbean G. angustifrons.
