Lamouroux based this name on 'Ulva pavonia auctorum'. Silva et al 1996: 606 indicate it is a new name based on an illegitimate Linnaean combination. Spencer et al. 2009 Taxon 58:250 appear to have completely confused the issue by misspelling the various epithets.
