It appeared only once in our collections in lat. 37 [degrees] 55' N., 36 [degrees] 42' W. where it was found by Capt. Rudge of the 'Avon'. Atlantic Ocean.

This is supported by Dodge 1982 Marine Dinoflagellates of the British Isles p. 56. Steidinger & Tangen 1997 In Tomas CR (ed) Identifying Marine Phytoplankton p. 439-442 does not follow Sournia.
